Camera-equipped automatic feeders are useful. They are also the category of home device that attracts the most privacy questions from buyers — and for good reason. A networked camera inside your home, connected to a third-party app, is worth thinking through before you commit to one.
This article covers the questions US buyers ask most often before purchasing a camera feeder. Some of these we can answer directly based on how the products work. Others we have to be honest about: as a retailer, we do not control the app infrastructure, and we will tell you clearly where our knowledge ends and where you should look further.
Can I use the live view without paying for a subscription?
Yes. Live streaming is free on all Tajrah camera models. You do not need a subscription to watch the live feed from your phone while the feeder is running and your WiFi is active.
What may require a subscription is extended cloud video storage — saving recorded clips for a period of time beyond the live session. This is an optional add-on on some models. The specifics vary by model and may change as apps are updated.
Our recommendation: download the companion app after setup and check the storage settings before assuming anything is free or paid. The live view will be available immediately. Cloud recording options will be visible in the app's settings, with pricing if applicable. You are never required to subscribe to use the core feeding and monitoring features.
Can I store video locally instead of in the cloud?
Some Tajrah models support a micro SD card slot for local video storage. With a compatible SD card installed, recorded clips are saved directly to the card rather than sent to a cloud server. Local storage means the footage stays on a physical device in your home.
Not all models support SD card recording. Check the specifications on the individual product page before purchasing if local storage is a priority for you. This is listed in the product specifications section of each product page at tajrah automatic feeders.
If a model does not support SD cards, cloud storage (subscription-based) is the only option for saving recorded footage. Live view does not require storage of any kind.
Can the microphone be disabled?
Two-way audio on camera models can be turned off through the app — you can disable the microphone on the feeder and the speaker independently in most models. This is a software control, not a physical hardware switch.
There is no physical microphone kill switch on any current Tajrah camera model. If you need a hardware-level audio disable, these models do not offer that. What the app allows you to control is whether the microphone is active during your session — not whether the hardware itself is powered.
If the microphone is something you want to use selectively rather than permanently, the app controls are sufficient for that purpose. If you want certainty that the microphone is physically disconnected, a camera feeder of this type is not the right product for that requirement.
Is the video stream encrypted?
This is where we have to be direct about the limits of what we can tell you as a retailer.
The companion apps used with Tajrah camera feeders are developed and maintained by the product manufacturers, not by us. We do not have access to the technical architecture of the app servers, and we are not in a position to make specific claims about encryption standards, data handling practices, or server-side security on behalf of those manufacturers.
What we can tell you: the connection between the app and the feeder uses your home WiFi network. Reputable app developers use HTTPS for data transmission, which encrypts traffic in transit. Whether the footage stored on cloud servers (if you use cloud storage) is encrypted at rest, and to what standard, is a question for the app's privacy policy — not for us.
To find accurate information about a specific app's security practices: check the app's privacy policy in the App Store or Google Play listing, or contact the app developer's support directly. We will help you identify which app your specific Tajrah model uses if you email us at support@tajrah.com.
Where are the cloud servers located?
We do not know the specific server locations for each manufacturer's app infrastructure, and we will not speculate or invent an answer to this question.
If server location matters to you — for data sovereignty reasons or personal preference — the right place to look is the app's terms of service and privacy policy, which should disclose where user data is stored and processed. This information is not something we can verify or represent on behalf of a third-party developer.
If server location is a dealbreaker for your purchase decision, contact us before buying and we will help you identify what documentation is available for the specific model you are considering.
What happens if my account is compromised?
If you believe your feeder app account has been accessed without your authorization:
- Change your password immediately through the app or the developer's website
- Log out of all active sessions if the app provides that option
- Remove any devices or users you do not recognize from the app's device list
- Contact the app developer's support to report the incident and request a security review of your account
We are a retailer and do not have access to app accounts or user data. We cannot reset passwords, revoke sessions, or access your account on your behalf. Account security issues need to go directly to the app developer.
On our end: your Tajrah order information is stored separately from the feeder app and managed by our store. If you have a concern about your purchase record or contact information on our side, email us at support@tajrah.com.
Does the app support two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication availability varies by app and may change with updates. We do not maintain real-time information about the security features of third-party apps, and stating what is or is not currently available would risk being inaccurate.
To check whether the specific app for your model supports two-factor authentication: check the app's settings after installation, or look at the app's support documentation in the App Store or Google Play. If this feature is important to you and you want to verify availability before purchasing, email us and we will help you find the right documentation for the model you are considering.
In general: use a strong, unique password for any smart home device app account. Do not reuse passwords across services. These are basic practices that protect you regardless of what authentication features a specific app offers.
A practical note on camera feeders and privacy expectations
A camera feeder is a WiFi-connected device with a microphone and camera inside your home, running an app developed by a manufacturer you may not have heard of before. This is worth taking seriously, not dismissing.
The practical steps that reduce risk regardless of which product you choose:
- Read the app's privacy policy before creating an account — it should tell you what data is collected and how it is used
- Use a unique, strong password for the app account
- If the app offers two-factor authentication, enable it
- If you use cloud storage, understand what you are agreeing to in the app's terms
- If you choose local SD card storage, the footage stays in your home and is not accessible to the app developer
If after reading this you decide a camera feeder is not the right fit for your comfort level with connected home devices — that is a completely reasonable conclusion. Our lineup also includes feeder models without cameras, which remove the network video component entirely. You can compare all options at tajrah automatic feeders.
